I have loved every minute of the boot camp! I thought I would struggle a bit and was quite nervous but it has been absolutely great. My wedding is fast approaching and I feel fab. I loved training by the beach. Really enjoyed the lift and carry exercise and the assault course. The bike ride was beautiful and the surfing was really good fun. Also, liked the boxing. The trainers are brilliant. The food was excellent Thank you for for a great 5 days!

Bootcamp Beach is fantastic. The trainers were brilliant! So much fun. I really loved training on the beach which is beautiful, the surfing was great and the bike ride was lovely. Food was gorgeous. IM SO HAPPY WITH MY RESULTS!!! Overall the boot camp has been the best thing I have done for myself for a LONG time! I have dropped a dress size and I feel great, really healthy. This is the start of something new, I feel like a new person, I'm coming away from boot camp full of great healthy ideas, ready to begin the new healthier me. Thank you very much Boris and Chris and everyone at Bootcamp Beach!

Can't see how Bootcamp Beach programme can be improved - Excellent!!!

I came to the April boot camp to escape from an 80 hour a week job, get fit and change alot of unhealthy eating habits. I now feel great. My eating habits have finally been broken and I achieved so much more than I thought I was capable of. DON'T PUT IT OFF. DON'T GIVE UP. DO IT! I highly recommend this boot camp to all. Brilliant.

I have loved every minute of my time at bootcamp beach, even the painful times. Boris and Chris have been truly amazing and I couldn't have done it without them. My goals and priorities have changed a lot over the week, even though I arrived hoping to lose some weight and get fitter (and I did). Soon into the week I realised that weight loss wasn't the priority for me. Instead I learned that I can push myself further and achieve more than I ever thought possible.

The cameradery that was quickly established has also proved to be fantastic and I have met some people I hope to be able to call friends for a long time to come.

Now that the week is over I feel inspired to try new things and carry on with others that I found myself losing the motivation for before bootcamp. I have set my new goals and feel that I shall now achieve them.

I expected to work hard at boot camp (we did) but I didn't expect to have so much fun (we really did!). The trainer was excellent, the team was first rate, the training programme was challenging & varied, the spa was heaven, the food was delicious & the location was stunning. But the best thing was spending the week with some really lovely people. I'd recommend Bootcamp Beach to anyone, it was great value for money.

As someone who is quite fit (I ran my first marathon earlier this year, I spent a week at Bootcamp Beach to improve on my fitness, to have the luxury of someone else providing me with motivation and to glean some new ideas for my tired exercise programme (and if I lost a few inches at the same time, I wasn't going to complain!). I wasn't sure what to expect from Bootcamp Beach and was fairly nervous when I arrived. My supportive friends had conjured images of total abstinence from any form of comfort and being fed on nothing more than sticks of celery for a week.

From the minute I arrived the team were welcoming, unintimidating and extremely positive and upbeat. I quickly met the group I would be spending the week with and was relieved to find many like minded people with a real range of fitness.

The next day set the routine for the week. Up at 06:40 and down to the beach for 07:00 for some form of circuit training for 60mins, before returning for breakfast at 08:00. Following this were 2 x 2 hours of team exercises, such as assault courses, marching with bergens/stretchers, boxing etc, before returning to the hotel for lunch. After lunch was a 3-hour session which varied each day e.g cycling / surfing / circuits. Dinner was served at 17:00 each night, and after that we were happy to enjoy the lovely spa facilities or crawl into bed! I thought the exercises were sufficiently challenging, well planned and carried out. Because of their nature (eg circuits) each person was able to push themselves to their own specific limits, and was not held back by those members of the group who were less fit. Similarly, the more unfit were not pressured by others (except the instructors, of course!)). Boris and Chris (the instructors) gave just the right amount of support and encouragement, while pushing you to achieve more than you believed yourself capable.

The food was excellent throughout the week, and I found the advice from the nutritionlist informative and useful; I usually have an intrinsic distrust of people from the 'alternative health' arena, but she was level-headed, realistic and full of sound advice. I have changed several of my eating habits since listening to her talks.

The accommodation at the Bonnington Beach Hotel is basic, but comfortable, and to be honest, 5-star luxury would have been lost on me, as I could have slept on a concrete floor by the end of each day!
I thoroughly recommend this excellent boot camp - excellent price, excellent food, excellent program and an excellent team which produced excellent results for each of us who put our hearts into it. I look forward to going back for another week.

Great Value, Great Results!

It was by accident (or perhaps fate) that I stumbled across the web page for Bootcamp Beach but how glad I now am I did! After living overseas for 10 years, I had let my health decline and waistband expand in almost proportionate levels. I was also getting married in a few months so I thought why not give it a try..... so it was with fear and trepidation but also an optimistism of what I could achieve that I made contact with Susan and arranged my trip to the Camp.

When I arrived there was a total mix of people there - a good few looking excessively fit before the Camp even started and others although not quite as fit who still looked way fitter than me - so I began to get some inital nerves and this probably added to my already elevated blood pressure! We all went through an inital health check and my results were as scary as I had feared!

The hotel itself was bright and airy and had a nice feel to it - as did the bedroom. There I waited to see what sort of hell Monday would bring....

What can I say - although tough and strenuous - the training from Monday through Friday was excellent. Boris and Billy with assistance from Hannah were totally brilliant - very knowledgable and motivational. The way the days were organised means that everyone could train at their own level. It consisted of warm up excercises, fast walking, jogging, sprints and hikes mixed in with beach games, cycling and surfing! An excellent mix. Being overweight I struggled but received excellent encouragement from the trainers (and also a number of my co-campers)! It is amazing how much easier training becomes with a bit of support and encourangement! However, I kept at it and by the end of each day was totally exhausted but had a warm glow at the thought of the good this was doing for my body.

By the end of the week - time came for the second fitness results - basically I lost nearly 10% of body fat and 10 lbs in weight so all in all - an excellent week.

The Camp has provided an excellent springboard - i've kept up the training and have lost another 10 lbs - I've also lost 4 inches of my waist and seen my blood pressure go decrease! Boris has already called offering his encouragement and support...

It is hard to put into words but seeing the way clothes are beginning to lossen and the lack of breathlessness that I used to experience are definitely visual signs the Camp works - I believe the Camp has helped me turn a corner and started me on the road to a slimmer and healthier me! My future wife and I strongly recommend!!

Dear Susan,
I wanted to write to you all and thank you for what was a very memorable and truly brilliant week, I had huge expectations and your Bootcamp exceeded them all. I felt challenged at all times, never once did I look at my watch… and the variety of drills and exercises kept a constant smile on my face, as did Boris and Billy…!

I am totally committed to the new food routine and am now wheat free and limited on my dairy intake, with the occasional glass of wine….it is December after all..!! I really did not think this would be the area that I would stick with, but Barbara was an inspiration and I think the fact I left feeling so much better and 8lbs lighter, has a lot to do with it..!!

Susan, you and Nick were always on hand which was wonderful to know… a smiley face when we came in from the cold, and Hannah keeping us organized, it was very professional. I truly wish you all a huge success with your bootcamp venture and having now experienced it first hand in the freezing cold and torrential rain… and still loved it as much as I did, I know it will be a resounding success.

I just wanted to drop you all a line to THANK YOU for a great week, I won't lie and say I found it easy and honestly on more than one occasion I felt like going home but I stayed!!

Bootcamp Beach is for men and women of all different ages, shapes and sizes but everyone has a simillar goal....to improve their health and / or fitness, lose weight and to have fun. This mixed boot camps work very well and create a fun and balanced group atmosphere. Our next available boot camp on 27th September also includes young and fit people, just like you. Some have a few pounds to lose and love the challenge of fitness holidays and others have more weight to lose and want a kickstart to fitness and weight-loss and help with their diet generally.

Our trainers and nutritionist will assess your lifestyle / exercise routine/ diet to help you to shift these extra pounds and maintain your weight loss following your time at boot camp. From the information you have provided, it appears you do mostly cardio workouts and you might need to mix this up with some resistance training. Maybe, you need to adjust the balance of food groups you eat and change the times and amounts you are eating throughout the day to prevent your body craving additional empty calories. We will be able to determine this information once you complete a fuller profile about yourself.

Our boot camps involves training on and around the beach; including jogging, circuit training, team sports and group activities. In your own time you will sometimes have access to the spa and leisure faciliites at the Marriott Hotel (just across the road). Also, it is possible for you to enjoy a surf lesson, if you would like (surf lessons are extra).

Our all -nclusive packages are extremely reasonably priced from just £60 a day and include: 5 nights hotel accommodation, all meals and snacks, all personal training, all fitness and lifestyle assessments, talks and aftercare. A 25% deposit secures your place and you can pay the balance in installments, before you attend boot camp.

I'm 27 and moderatly fit. I play 5-a-side footie, do kickboxing once a week and run 3km once a week. I want to lose weight (about 1 stone) and improve my fitness as I do get out of breath. My diet is quite healthy but i have trouble controling my calorie intake and I do like fatty foods.

I would like to know who your bootcamps are directed at? what sort of people come on your bootcamps and what training is included etc?

I've been responding to a number of boot camp enquiries today and thought it would be a good idea to include some of the issues raised on this blog, if of general interest:

Portion Control
One person enquiring about boot camp was keen to learn more about portion control:

A helpful tip for portion control is to try to visualise healthy portion sizes. For example, if you take your right hand – one serving of protein should be about the size of the palm of your hand. One serving of vegetables and salad should roughly be the size of two closed fists. Starchy foods such as potatoes or pasta should be served in a portion roughly the size of a tightly clenched fist.

I know these healthy portion sizes appear small, but if you consider your stomach is only the size of two loosely fisted hands placed together, the suggested healthy portion sizes don’t appear so small. Also, I know there is a product on the market called the 'diet plate'. I haven't seen it but understand it is a plate that is divided into sections to ensure you eat the correct amount of food types without the need to measure and eliminates guess work. Do let me know if this has worked for you.

Mind Control Diet
Ultimately, we mostly know the good diet rules and roughly how much we should be eating, but ultimately, resisting temptation is the key to successful weight loss. I read an interesting article in the Sunday Times this weekend ‘The mind-control diet’
